*Praise Music
"Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise" #66
Gathering of the People
One: When my head is aching and
my muscles are tense, you remind me of what is important and what is not.
Many: I am like a child comforted at its mother's
breast
One: When fatigue confuses my
thinking and clouds my perspective, you refuel my energies and assure me that
sleep will be coming soon.
Many: You have calmed and quieted my soul.
One: When sickness saps my
strength and pain is a frequent foe, you tell me that it will not be more than
I can bear.
Many: I am like a child comforted at its mother's
breast.
One: When anger closes my throat
and streams of resentment flow over me, you clear my head and help me to
realize that my adversary is human too.
Many: You have calmed and quieted my soul.
One: When sleep will not come at
night and the hours crawl by amid financial worry, you let me know that you
will provide for my needs.
Many: I am like a sick child quieted at its
mother's breast.
One: When my shoulders feel
weighed down by the responsibility of family and work, you offer me strength to
carry on.
Many: You have calmed and quieted my soul.
All: We praise you, our understanding and intimate
God! Your spacious lap accommodates our
frailties and your strong arms embrace and protect us. Thanks be to the God of love! Amen
Based on Psalm 131
Invocation and Lord’s Prayer
Our
Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be
done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and
forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us; and lead us not
into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the
power, and the glory forever. Amen
